We have sent out an email offering you to be included in our Experiential Visit Catalogue aimed at bringing high income tourists to an experiential visit to your organization.
We are pleased to report that we have received many responses and we've sent the Catalogue to tour guides and tourism agencies.

You are still able to join the Catalogue, however I strongly recommend you register as soon as possible. We will be updating the catalogue on a regular basis, however later registration will delay your publication in the Catalogue and in the interim the tour guides and tourism agecies might already choose several visits to focus on.

לאחרונה, נוכחתי לדעת עד כמה פעולת המעקב – הנעשית ביסודיות, בהמשכיות ובחריצות – מהווה חלק בלתי נפרד מתהליך גיוס הכספים שלכם. לפני כחודש, ערכתי מעקב עם נציג קרן ארופאית גדולה לאחר הגשת בקשה למענק עבור עמותת "עתיד במדבר" לפרויקט הנוגע לזהותם היהודית של הקהילה האתיופית המתקיים בכמה ערים בנגב. התברר שבשבוע לאחר מכן, בעלי התפקידים המרכזיים בקרן היו בדרכם לביקור בארץ. הצעתי לנציג הקרן, למרות לו"ז דחוס, לבוא לבקר באחד מאתרי הפרויקט בבאר שבע על אף העובדה שבאותו יום ובאותה שעה לא היו פעילויות מיוחדות מתוכננות . במהרה, ארגנו קבוצה של משתתפים, אנשי צוות ונציג ארגון חיצוני שהעיד על חשיבותה והצלחתה של התוכנית. הביקור הוכתר כהצלחה מירבית ויודעי דבר מבשרים שאכן המענק המבוקש יתקבל

I recently had an experience which can serve as a testimony to how fundamental, continuous and diligent follow-ups are an integral part of your fundraising efforts. A month ago I followed up with a large European foundation representative regarding a proposal which had been submitted by atid baidbar for a project relating to Jewish identity of Ethiopians that takes place in several communities in the negev. It turned out that the following week the principles of the foundation were visiting israel. I offered the foundation representative to squeeze in a visit to one of the sites of the program in beer sheva, even though that on that particular day and time the program had no scheduled activity. We quickly arranged for participants in the activity to be present along with staff members and a professional from an external organization who could testify as to the importance and effectiveness of the program. The visit was highly successful and the inside information is that indeed a grant will be awarded

Yad Hanadiv supports programs which provide a creative sollution to essential needs in Israeli society. We are happy to announce that the registration is open for two Seminars in Jerusalem which will focus on two core fundraising topics.

Fundraising events - 29th of February

Internet and Corporate Fundraising - 14th of March

The format of the seminar will be a lecture, followed by time for questions and discussion with the participants.

The meetings will take place in English, between 17:15 and 20:15 once every two weeks, on Emek Refaim 43A in Jerusalem.

כעדות לכך שקבלת מענקים מקרנות דורשת מומחיות, ידע, מקצוענות, סבלנות ועבודה משותפת משופרת, הלקוח שלנו, "עתיד במדבר" – ארגון הפועל לחיזוק הפלורליזם היהודי בנגב – זכה למענק השלישי שלהם מאז התחלת עבודתם איתנו במרץ 2011. שני המענקים הקודמים שהונקו מנו 140,000 ש"ח מקרן ישראלי אנונימי עבור הוצאות פעילות שותפת והשלמת בניין הסמינרים, מחד, ו-10,000 יורו מארגון לוי לאסן עבור מרכז לצעירים, מאידך.

ארגון "עתיד במדבר" בעזרת תמיכתנו המקצועית, זכה לאחד משלושת המענקים שהוענקו ע"י הפדרציה היהודית של ניו יורק לאחר שהפדרציה קבלה 198 בקשות מקדימות (LOI) ואישרה ל-11 מהן להגיש בקשות מלאות ומהם העניקה מענקים לשלושה ארגונים בלבד. לקוחתנו עתיד במדבר מענק בסכום 50,000$ הוענק עבור פרויקט "גוונים לרשויות בנגב" המאחד ראשי ערים וראשי מחלקות חינוך עירוניות של מועצות אזוריות ומקומיות בנגב ברעיון שלתרבות היהודית והישראלית יש פוטנציאל גדול בפיתוח הקהילה ובטיפוח השיתופיות, ולאור זאת, ראוי שיזכה למימון מטעם העירייה.

המענק יממן מנויי רכז קהילתי לתרבות יהודי-ישראלי מטעם העירייה בכל אחת מששת הערים המשתתפות בפרויקט, אשר יקדם תוכניות פלורליסטיות בתחום הזהות היהודית. בשלב הבא הרכזים החדשים יתכננו ויישמו פעילויות פיילוט בששת הקהילות שלהם.

Learn the art of grantwriting and fundraising for non-profit organizations in a 6-session, 18-hour combined grantwriting and fundraising course with David Maeir Epstein, MSSA resource development consultant for non-profit organizations. David has worked in the field of fundraising and grantwriting for over thirty years and has served as an independent organizational consultant for tens of nonprofit organizations in Israel. In the last decade, David has assisted clients in raising over $19 million. David has also taught Resource Development for Welfare Organizations at Hebrew University's Baerwald School of Social Work.

Graduates are provided with information about openings in the field of fundraising and grantwriting in Israel. Many graduates have subsequently entered the field or advanced their position. Graduates have uniformly indicated that they gained much practical and helpful experiential information and a fair number have gained employment or enhanced their career in part due to the course.

Course Description: The course consists of six meetings of three hours. Each meeting will be divided into a grantwriting part and a fundraising part. The grantwriting aspect of the course will focus on teaching how to write grant proposals, identifying and working with foundations. Each session deals with a different aspect of grantwriting through lectures and hands-on grantwriting workshops. Participants will be assisted with the writing of different parts of a grant proposal, and homework from each session will be reviewed in the following class. Participants will produce a grant proposal as a result of the course.

The fundraising part of the course will section will teach the theoretical and practical tools necessary to enhance your knowledge of the field via lectures, discussion and experiential simulation workshops on personal solicitation, planning fundraising events, corporate sponsorships, internet web site and email fundraising. The final session will include guidance on how to gain employment or professional advancement in the field.

The course is conducted in English, with a Hebrew translation of terms for key words. Hebrew speakers who understand English but prefer to communicate in Hebrew are welcome to participate. Upon finishing the course, graduates receive diplomas certifying their participation in the course.

As a courtesy to the first few people who register the date and time of day in which the course will take place will be decided based on their availability. Those who register early will also receive a 50NIS early bird discount.

The cost of the course is 1,500 including VAT. Dates of the course are: February 1, 15, 29; March 14, and March 28, 2012.
There are various discounts for graduates of the PresenTense Institute, Nefesh B'Nefesh, AACI, SAZF, the Yokneam Forum of Technical Writers (Elephant), UJIA, and the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies.

A Hassidic Court Seeks to be a Bridge to the non Ultra-Orthodox? You won't hear about in this media!

The public is familiar with Ultra Orthodox Jewry from an unfavorable point of view; stones thrown at passers by, burning garbage cans, non-recognition of marriages, isolation from Israeli society, etc.

We are very pleased to be seeking funding for an Ultra-Orthodox nonprofit, with the blessing of their Rebbe, for a project showing the positive and tolerant side to this sector, one that the public doesn't hear about. This specific Hassidic community is actively bringing together their followers with secular and religious non-Haredi Jews in Jerusalem.

This Hassidic community follows its own method of easing the spiritual distress amongst the Jewish people, one which is influenced by the polarization and alienation between two parts of society, the Ultra Orthodox and the secular. We are seeking foundations in Israel and abroad to help fund and increase the span of this worthy activity.

The project’s seminar center hosts face-to-face meetings between the two populations. These meetings allow for the removal of the walls of suspicion and hatred which traditionally exist between them. These Hassidim believe that through the breaching of the walls between them and the different streams of Jewish Israeli society will make Israel both socially and economically healthier. The Ultra Orthodox sector will open up to the work force and the secular sector will be more willing to absorb them.

The meetings begin by each of the individuals presenting themselves to the other group participants including their presumptions about the opposing group. Following this initial stage, the volunteers from the Ultra Orthodox sector describe their lives as members of their community - including a typical day – and point out what they feel they have in common with members of the secular sector.

Next, the large group is divided into smaller groups composed of Ultra Orthodox and secular members. Each group addresses a different aspect of polarization and suggests solutions.

At the end of the meeting, each of the participants is asked to comment whether their opinion about the other sector has changed, if only a little.

Thousands of visitors visit the site: school children, university students, soldiers, policemen and professionals from all walks of life. This Hassidic community is interested in broadening these activities both by increasing the number of visitors as well as up-grading the Center.

חצר חסידית זו פועלת לשיטתה להקלת המצוקה הרוחנית בעם ישראל , המושפעת מקיטוב וניכור בין חלקי העם. משרדנו נרתם להרחבת הפעילות המבורכת הזאת ולשם כך פונה לקרנות בארץ ובעולם בבקשה למענקים שיאפשרו הפעולה הזאת המבוססת על מפגשי פנים אל פנים בין 2 הקהלים . מפגשים אלו גורמים להפלת מחיצות החשדנות והאיבה הקיימים באופן מסורתי ביניהם. באמצעות הפלת המחיצות , כך מאמינים החסידים, החברה הישראלית תהיה בריאה יותר הן בהיבט החברתי והן בהיבט הכלכלי. המגזר החרדי ייפתח יותר להתערות בשוק העבודה והמגזר החילוני יהיה פתוח יותר לקלוט אותו.י

המפגשים נפתחים בהצגה עצמית של כלל המשתתפים בפני הקבוצה כולל מה דעתם המקדמית על הציבור האחר. לאחר מכן , מתנדבי הצד החרדי מתארים בפני החילונים מה המשמעות של להיות חרדי, מה כוללת שגרת יומם ואיזה מכנה משותף הם יכולים למצוא עם המגזר החילוני.י

לאחר מכן הקבוצה הגדולה מתחלקת לקבוצות קטנות המורכבות מחרדים וחילוניים. כל קבוצה מתייחסת לפן אחר של הקיטוב ומציעה דרכי פיתרון. לסיום המפגש מתבקש כל אחד מהמשתתפים לומר האם דעתו על המגזר השני השתנתה ולו במעט.י

במהלכן של הפעילות הזו מבקרים במקום אלפי מבקרים :תלמידי בתי ספר ואוניברסיטאות, חיילים ,שוטרים ואנשי מקצוע מכל גווני הקשת המקצועית. חסידים אלה מעוניינים להרחיב את פעילותם בהיקף המבקרים ובשכלול המרכז. למידה נוסף תפנו ליוסי צוראל

Bearing testimony to the fact that success in receiving grants requires expertise, knowledge, professionalism, patience and a good working partnership, our client, Atid Bamidbar, an organization that seeks to strengthen pluralistic Jewish identity in the Negev, was just awarded its third grant since starting to work with us in April 2011. The two previous grants were for 140,000 NIS from an anonymous Israeli foundation for general operating expenses and towards completion of the seminar building and 10,000 Euros from the Levi Lassen organization towards a young adults’ centre.

Atid Bamidbar, with our professional assistance, was one of only three grants awarded by the New York UJA Federation out of 198 Letters of Inquiry and 11 full proposals approved for submission. The $50,000 grant was awarded for the Gvanim for Negev Municipalities program which unites Mayors and heads of Municipal Education Departments in Negev regional and local councils under the shared idea that Jewish and Israeli culture has great potential for developing community and cultivating commonality and therefore should receive municipal funding.

The funding will be put towards the costs of instituting a Municipal Jewish-Israeli Culture Communal Coordinator (JICCC) position for pluralistic Jewish identity programming in each of the six participating Negev municipalities and the next stage will be for the new municipal coordinators to plan and implement pilot activities in their respective communities.

We cannot take sole credit for Atid Bamidbar’s success as it certainly would not have happened without the intense work of Debbie Goldman Golan, President and Co-Founder and Shai Ben-Tal, CEO/CFO. Their intensive involvement along every step of the way, both in terms of working closely with us in writing and reviewing material and in terms of their knowledge and dedication to their goals, played a tremendous part in achieving such a positive outcome.

Background

The Westbury Group is a network of more than 20 international foundations with a shared interest in enhancing Jewish life in Europe. The Westbury Group group brings together foundation professionals, the philanthropic elite, opinion shapers and policy makers from across the Jewish world, to provide unrivalled insight into the real-time issues facing European Jewish communities.

The Westbury European Initiatives strive to support activism, build organizational capacity, and show case some of the wonderful activities taking place in Jewish communities around Europe. Each year the Westbury Group identifies a number of exciting grassroots organizations that are operating in emerging Jewish communities in Central and Eastern Europe.

Through the Westbury European Initiatives, selected organizations will be publically recognized and showcased for their excellence, creativity, innovation and ability to achieve meaningful change in their communities and offered support for their work. The top 3-5 most impressive organizations will receive a Westbury Innovation Grant of up to €20,000. A small number of additional organizations will receive Westbury Recognition Grants of €1,000. Throughout the 12 month grant term recipient organizations will also receive mentoring and capacity building from the Westbury Group.

How to Apply

Please read these guidelines for applicants carefully in order to decide if your organization is eligible to apply for funding. If you decide to submit a proposal, please use these guidelines to ensure you complete the form correctly. If you unsure about how to answer any of the questions in the application form or the supporting documents required, please do contact us with any questions ahead of the deadline.

We hope these Guidelines will help you to improve the quality of your proposal. The Westbury European Initiatives aim to support and strengthen organizations in the long-term, and therefore we are interested in obtaining a full picture of your organization and its activities.

Please note that due to scheduled meetings of the Allocations Committee of the Westbury Group, only complete applications that are received before the deadline along with all required supporting documents will be considered for funding.

Guidelines:

1. Applicants must be registered charities or non-profit organizations in a European country, or operating under the aegis of a local, legally incorporated community body or organization. Proof of the charitable status of the organization that will be receiving funds, should a grant be approved, must be submitted along with the application. Organizations without charitable status can apply only if a registered charity is willing to accept funds on its behalf.

2. The Westbury European Initiatives aim to strengthening Jewish life in Europe by supporting smaller organizations and initiatives that are grassroots funded and led, rather than established bodies with significant annual budgets, strong support from the local Jewish community and links with state institutions. Applying organizations must involve and benefit European Jews. European projects or departments of international organizations will not be considered for funding. Grants are intended to support and invigorate grassroots organizations with an annual operating budget of no more than €50,000.

3. A number of grants of up to €20,000 will be made to support and invigorate grassroots efforts with an annual overall operating budget of no more than €50,000. Grants from the Westbury Group are intended to strengthen the infrastructure and core activities of smaller organizations, rather than supporting short-term projects. Therefore, organizations with a larger annual budget are not eligible to apply, even if the project budget for which they are seeking funding is less than €50,000.

4. As the Westbury Group has limited resources, there is a preference to support initiatives in emerging communities in Central and Eastern Europe.

5. Preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate an ability to increase the impact of grants awarded by the Westbury Group by raising matching funds.

6. Applications must include an operating budget with organizations’ income and expenses for the current year and any subsequent year for which funds are being requested. We will not be able to consider applications with missing or incomplete operating budgets.

7. Only applications in English can be accepted. However, we recognize that English may not be your organization’s language of operation and will take this into account when assessing proposals.

8. It is important to demonstrate in your application that you have researched the sustainability, necessity and effectiveness of your organization. In addition, we would like to hear about your planned evaluation methodology.

9. Applications must include at least one recommendation by an impartial expert with an understanding of the area of the work of the applying organization. It is the responsibility of the applicant to obtain recommendations and submit them along with their application before the deadline.

הנני מתכבד להציג בפניך הזדמנות לכלול את עמותתך בקטלוג חדש של ביקורים חווייתיים אשר אנו משווקים לחברות תיירות נכנסת (על מנת לראות דוגמה מהקטלוג- לחץ כאן). מטרת הקטלוג היא לעניין אורחים אמידים בביקור חווייתי אצלך במסגרת ביקורם בארץ ולפרסם עמותות ישראליות הפועלות בתחומים של רווחה, בריאות, חינוך ותרבות.

ברצוננו להדגיש כי בביקור האורח, המטרה אינה בהכרח תרומה מיידית ממנו (למרות שברוב המקרים זה אכן קורה ביוזמתם) אלא רצון שיכיר את העמותה, את חזונה ודרכי פעולתה ויגלה עניין בהמשך הקשר איתה תוך הצטרפות לידידי העמותה ואף הצגתה בפני ידידים אחרים שלו בחו"ל.

כדי לעניין אורחים פוטנציאליים בקיום הביקור ועל מנת ליצור מפגש מוצלח שיגביר את הסיכויים לקבלת תרומה משמעותית נדרשת עבודת הכנה יסודית טרם הביקור, ליווי ופיקוח במהלך הביקור, ומעקב לאחר סיומו.

אנו מציעים שני מסלולים לתכנון הביקור:

מסלול א' – ייעוץ בהכנת הביקור:

1. הארגון ימלא את הטופס באנגלית, המתאר את המסגרת הכללית של הביקור. במידה והנכם מעדיפים למלא את הטופס בעברית, אנו נשמח לתרגם זאת כנגד תשלום סמלי.

2. לאחר איתור האורח ובטרם קיום הביקור, משרדנו יעבור על תכנית הביקור יחד עם הארגון המארח, ויעביר לארגון סקירת רקע על האורח, יכולתו הכספית, תחומי העניין שלו, מוסדות להם תרם בעבר, והדרך הטובה ביותר לביצוע הביקור.

3. הארגון יהיה אחראי לעריכת הביקור בצורה נאותה ומקצועית, וכן למעקב לאחר הביקור לצורך המשך הקשר עם האורח.

מסלול ב' – מעורבות היועצים בליווי הביקור ומעקב:

1. לאחר שהארגון ימלא את הטופס להלן (כמתואר במסלול א'), משרדנו ימלא תפקיד פעיל בתכנון והכנת הביקור בשיתוף עם הארגון. הדבר יכלול הכנת מצגת באנגלית המציגה בצורה ברורה את העמותה ופעולותיה. אנו נסייע לארגון לבנות תכנית לביקור שתיגע בלבו של האורח בצורה הטובה ביותר ותעורר בו רצון לתרום.

2. אני או נציג אחר ממשרדנו נשתתף אישית בעריכת הביקור, ונלווה את האורח בעת הפעילות או הסיור בארגון, תוך מתן שירותי מתורגמנות והסברים לפי הצורך.

3. במהלך הביקור, נברר עם המבקר מהי הדרך הטובה ביותר לנהל את תהליך המעקב לאחר הביקור. בתום הביקור, משרדנו ייעץ לארגון לגבי ביצוע תהליך המעקב, ויהיה מעורב לפי הצורך.

התמורה לשרות זה תהיה בהתאם למסלול שיבחר הארגון:

· תשלום מיידי בסך 180 ₪ + מע"מ עבור פרסום בקטלוג (למשך שנה שלמה)

· במידה ויתקיים ביקור בפועל, התשלום יהיה כדלקמן:

v מסלול א', שבו רמת המעורבות של משרדנו בביקור מצומצמת, כרוך בתשלום של 500 ₪, עבור העבודה הדרושה לצורך תיאום הביקור והקפדה על ביצועו ברמה מקצועית נאותה.

v במסלול ב', התשלום יהיה תלוי בהיקף שעות העבודה ובהסכם שייחתם בינינו.

· אם ייחתם חוזה לשירותים נוספים כגון איתור תורמים וקרנות העשויים להביא לתרומות משמעותיות נוספות עבור העמותה, תקבל העמותה הנחה בגין היותה מנויה לקטלוג.

רקע לביקור: מיהו הארגון, מה הוא עושה, עם אילו אוכלוסיות הוא עובד (2-3 משפטים). (למשל: ארגון בן חמש שנים המעניק סיוע לבני נוער בסיכון / אוכלוסיות מוחלשות, מעניק העשרה חינוכית / הכוונה מקצועית וכו'). כתובת אתר האינטרנט של הארגון.

Outline for proposed experiential visit to organization__________ (1 page)

Rationale for the visit:

Background of the organization, what it does, target populations served (2-3 sentences). For example, a five-year old organization that extends assistance to youth at risk / underprivileged populations, and provides educational enrichment / career guidance, etc. Organization’s website address.

Summary of Visit: What kind of activity are we offering to visitors – what will they do or see, what kind of experience will they have, who will greet them (in English) and provide them with an explanation on the organization (3-4 sentences). More than one activity can be proposed!

For example: Visitors can view a community theater / dance performance presented by youth, participate in a discussion on social issues addressed by the organization, observe a class, help renovate a building, etc. The director of the organization will tell them about the organization’s vision and activity.

Target Population for Visit: Who is the visit most suitable for? (women, educators, attorneys, etc.)

Length of Visit: How long will the visit be, are the hours fixed or flexible (e.g. is it dependent on the children’s school hours)

Location of Visit: Where will the visit be held (detail city or cities), can it take place at the visitors’ hotel?

Costs/Expectations of the hosts: Will you require payment for preparing and holding the visit, or are you willing to offer the visit free of charge as a long-term investment in public relations? What is the organization requesting from the visitors (for example, a list of names and email addresses of participants and their agreement to receive a one-time email communication from the organization inviting them to become friends of the organization).

Photo and Recording/PR possibilities and Restrictions: Is the organization willing to let the visitors photograph the activity, can photos be distributed in the visitors’ hometown newspapers or newsletters

Dear Colleague,

I am honored to present you with an opportunity to include your organization in a new Catalogue of Experiential Israel Visits which will be marketed to high-income clients of tour guides and incoming tourism agencies (click here to see the Sample Catalogue). The objective of the catalogue is to interest high-income guests in an experiential visit provided by your organization as part of their visit to Israel, and to publicize Israeli non-profits who work in the areas of welfare, health, education and culture.

We wish to emphasize that the goal of the guests' visits is not necessarily an immediate donation on their part (although in most cases this does occur at their initiative) but rather to introduce them to your organization’s vision and methods via an exciting on site visit. The visit and your follow-up would foster their interest in maintaining connections with you, contributing, joining your "Friends" and perhaps assisting you by presenting you to their social networks abroad.

In order to draw the attention of potential visitors and to conduct a successful visit which will increase the chance of receiving a significant donation, we offer pre-visit comprehensive preparatory work, accompaniment and supervision during the visit, as well as help in follow-up after the visit.

We offer two options for joining our Catalogue of Experiential Israel Visits:

Option A – Consultation in Planning a Visit:

The association will complete the attached form in English, which describes the general framework of the visit. If you prefer to fill out the form in Hebrew, we are glad to translate it for you for a symbolic fee.

After identifying the visitor and prior to the visit, we will review the visit plan together with you and supply you with information on your visitors’ backgrounds, financial capabilities, areas of interest, and suggest a strategy for the visit.

In Option A, your organization will be responsible both for hosting the visit in an appropriate and professional manner as well as for the post-visit follow-up in order to maintain contact with the visitor.

Option B – Consultants are involved in accompanying visit and conducting follow-up:

After the association completes the attached form (as described in Option A), our office will take an active role in the planning and preparation of the visit together with the association. This will include preparing an English-language visual presentation presenting the association and its activities. We will assist the association in constructing a visit which will touch the visitor’s heart in the most successful manner and move him or her towards a desire to make a contribution.

We will personally participate in the visit and accompany the visitor during the activities/tour, providing translation and explanations as required.

During the visit, we will clarify with the visitor what would be the best way to conduct the follow-up subsequent to the visit. At the end of the visit, we will help you develop and implement an effective plan for follow-up that will result in a maximum contribution and involvement of your new Friend.

The costs of this service will be determined according to the Option which the association chooses:

· An immediate charge of NIS 180 + VAT for appearing in the catalogue (for the duration of one whole year)

· If and when an actual visit opportunity arises, we will contact you and you will decide if you are interested in hosting and which service option you will choose:

v Option A, with minimal intervention on the part of our office, will cost NIS 500 for the work involved in coordinating the visit and ensuring an appropriate and professional level of hosting.

v Option B, will be priced according to the hours that you request be invested by our office.

· If a contract for additional services is subsequently signed for such services as identifying donors and foundations for potential additional significant contributions to your organization, the association will receive a discount as a participant in the catalogue.

I got some great news!!

A client of mine just got informal news about a $50,000 grant that was one of three selected out of a total of 198 submissions!

The project relates to the encouragement of pluralistic Jewish identity programming on the municipal level in the Negev. Can't give details until it's confirmed officially, but it's a great present for the last day of Hanukah!

I'd say it was a miracle, but just like the miracle of the oil lasting 8 days required taking the action of lighting it for day one, so too did the grant award require the highly professional work of our staff, in particular Deputy Director, Shlomit Ben Michael and intense cooperative work with and by the nonprofit which initiated the visionary project.

New Award to be Launched - Ruderman Prize in Disability

Ruderman Family Foundation Offers $200,000 to Innovative Programs in the Field of Disabilities

Rechovot, Israel -- November 29, 2011. The Ruderman Family Foundation has announced the establishment of the Ruderman Prize in Disability, awarding $200,000 to excellence and innovation in programs that foster full inclusion for people with disabilities. The official announcement of the new prize will be made by Foundation President Jay Ruderman in New York City on December 6, 2011, at ADVANCE 2011: The Ruderman Jewish Special Needs Conference.

The Ruderman Prize is an international competition open to organizations around the world, including in Israel, that promote the integration of the disabled in the community. The $200,000 prize will be divided among up to ten award recipients.

The conference, which was established by the Ruderman Family Foundation in 2010, brings together Jewish funders of disability services with the intent of creating a common dialogue and strategy. This year the conference will feature an address by Academy Award-winning actress and activist Marlee Matlin (Children of a Lesser God), a champion of the rights of people with disabilities, former Social Welfare Minister Isaac Herzog, and Timothy Shriver, Chairman and CEO of the Special Olympics.

American philanthropist Jay Ruderman, who made aliyah with his family 6 years ago, has led the Foundation in initiating important development and successful partnerships in the Israeli social welfare arena. Among the organizations that he and his wife Shira Ruderman are involved in are the JDC, Access Israel, Kesher, Kamah, Wings of Krembo,Shalhevet, and Keren Isef, among others..

"This new initiative will empower organizations with the most innovative and creative programs and give them the funding to run forward and make a real change," said Jay Ruderman. "Standing still while our brothers and sisters with disabilities are shut out of opportunities is simply not an option. We will continue to champion for full inclusion of the disabled in society and equal opportunities for all."

The application form for the awards will be available at www.rudermanfoundation.org starting December 6th and applications will be due on March 15, 2012. Award winners will be announced in June.

The Ruderman Family Foundation is dedicated to supporting the challenged in society by focusing on individuals with disabilities in the Jewish community, and in improving Israel-Diaspora relations.

קרן רודרמן הודיעה על השקת "פרס רודרמן לקידום שילוב בעלי מוגבלויות בחברה", על סך 200,000$, שתעודד מצוינות וחשיבה חדשנית בתחום קידום שילוב אוכלוסיות בעלי מוגבלויות בחברה. הפרס יושק באופן רשמי על ידי נשיא הקרן ג'יי רודרמן ב-6 בדצמבר בניו יורק, בכנס Advance 2011, כנס קרן רודרמן למוגבלויות בקהילה היהודית. פרס רודרמן הוא תחרות בינלאומית המיועדת לארגונים מכל העולם, כולל מישראל, שעוסקים במתן שירותים לאוכלוסיות בעלי מוגבלויות. הפרס יחולק בין כ-10 ארגונים לפי החלטת וועדת השיפוט.

הכנס, שאורגן לראשונה על ידי קרן רודרמן ב-2010, הוא מפגש של לתורמים וארגונים העוסקים בתחום המוגבלויות לצורך החלפת רעיונות ותכנון אסטרטגי משותף. השנה יופיעו בכנס השחקנית וזוכת פרס האוסקר מרלי מטלין, (ילדים חורגים לאלוהים), שפועלת למען מימוש זכויותיהם של אנשים עם מוגבלויות, ח"כ יצחק הרצוג, לשעבר שר הרווחה והשירותים החברתיים, וטימוטי שרייבר-קנדי, יו"ר ומנכ"ל "ספיישל אולימפיקס" (אולימפיאדה לספורטאים בעלי מוגבלויות).

ג'יי רודרמן, פילנתרופ אמריקאי שעלה לארץ עם משפחתו לפני כ-6 שנים, פועל, יחד עם אשתו שירה, גם בישראל. תחת הנהגתו, יזמה הקרן בשנים האחרונות פרויקטים חדשים ויצרה שותפויות רבות עם ארגונים רבים, כגון: "נגישות ישראל " ; "מסד נכויות";"ארגון קשר"; ארגון "בזכות"; עמותת "שלהבת"; "קרן אייסף"; "עמותת קמה"; "כנפיים של קרמבו" ועוד.

"אני מאמין שפרס זה יעניק לארגונים שייבחרו משאבים חיוניים לביצוע תכניות פורצות דרך ויצליח לחולל שינוי משמעותי בשטח", אומר ג'יי רודרמן. "אינני יכולים לעמוד באפס מעשה כשאנשים עם מוגבלויות נשארים בחוץ. נמשיך לפעול לשוויון זכויות מלא ולשילובם המוחלט של בעלי מוגבלויות בחברה".

The Israel Tennis Center raises 1,800,000 NIS in one fundraising evening event

On the 26^th of October, 2011, The Israel Tennis Center (a non-profit organization) held a fundraising event at the tennis center in Ramat HaSharon. The goal of the event was to raise money for the Center's social projects for children with special needs, youth at risk and Ethiopian immigrants residing in the periphery.

I had the honor of taking part in the organization and production of the event, having been invited to do so by Seth Davis – who serves as the Director of both International Resource Marketing, as well as the Israeli Friends of the Center. Seth attended one of the resource development courses which I taught this year, while serving in his former capacity as Director of Resource Development for the Ashkelon Foundation and other non-profit associations.

The event was an interesting mix of Americans and Israelis, taking place while the Board of Directors of the Tennis Centers was visiting the country. In order to encourage the Israeli participants to contribute to the association, one of the Board members challenged the participants declaring that they would match all funds contributed that evening. One of the two largest donations contributed that evening was by the main guest of honor – Mitchell Goldhar. Mr. Goldhar, the owner of the Maccabi Tel Aviv soccer team, made his contribution in memory of Harold Green, the father of Chairman of the International Board of the organization, one of his closest friends, the Canadian born, Kevin Green. In the course of the evening, about 10 pairs of donors were matched (an Israeli and an American in each pair). Each pair received the names of several other potential donors attending the event, with the task of soliciting them for contributions during the evening.

The program included an open bar and an exhibition tennis game played by the children supported by the Center who were the target population for the evening's contributions. As well, a short film produced especially for the event was shown, and Mr. Golhar, the President of the Israeli Committee and the Director of the International Committee for Resource Development, all spoke. The program was indeed lengthy but the messages conveyed were significant. I was very moved by a surprise dance performance by the Center's children, which was presented mid-evening.

The most impressive aspect from a professional point of view was the combination between the participants' social interactions and the informal personal soliciting which took place during the hour and a half following the exhibition game, which was accompanied by food and beverages. The participants were personally invited by the members of the Israeli Committee by email and received text messages reminding them of the event.

The goal of the event was, as well, to increase the number of members on the Israeli Committee of The Israel Tennis Center in Israel, since the solicitation involved asking for a monetary commitment together with an invitation to be involved.

Kudus to Seth Davis and to the Director of the Israel Tennis Center, Mr. Danny Gali, and to the entire staff who produced the event, for a highly successful evening benefiting Israeli children.

מרכזי הטניס בישראל מגייס מיליון שח בערב אחד

ב26.10 התקיים אירוע גיוס כספים עבור מרכז הטניס הישראלי במגרשיהם ברמת השרון. מטרת האירוע הייתה גיוס משאבים עבור הפרויקטים החברתיים של המרכז עבור ילדים עם צרכים מיוחדים, נוער בסיכון ועולים מאתיופיה בפריפריה .

היה לי הכבוד ליטול חלק בארגון והפקת האירוע על פי הזמנתו של סת' דיוויס - מנהל שיווק וגיוס משאבים מטעם המרכז. סת', למד השנה באחד הקורסים בגיוס משאבים שהעברתי כאשר מילא את תפקידו הקודם כמנהל פיתוח משאבים של קרן אשקלון.

האירוע היה שילוב מעניין ביותר בין אמריקאים וישראלים והתקיים בזמן שחברי חבר הנאמנים של מרכזי הטניס בקרו בארץ. בכדי לדרבן תרומות מהמשתתפים הישראלים, חבר הנאמנים אתגר את המשתתפים והכריזו שהם ישוו (מטצ"ינג ) את כל התרומות שינתנו באותו ערב. אחת משתי תרומות גדולות שניתנו באותו הערב ניתנה ע"י אורח הכבוד המרכזי –מיטש גולדהר. אדון גולדהר הינו בעליו של קבוצת הכדורגל מכבי ת"א ונתן את התרומה לזכר שאול גרין, אביו של יושב ראש ההנהלה הבין לאומית של הארגון, אחד מחבריו הקרובים ביותר. במהלך הערב תואמו כעשרה זוגות מתרימים (ישראלי ואמריקני בכל זוג) וכל זוג קיבל מספר תורמים פוטנציאלים מבין משתתפי האירוע, וכמשימה היו צריכים להתרים אותם במשך הערב.

התוכנית כללה בר פתוח ומשחק טניס לדוגמא ע"י ילדים בתוכניות הנתמכות ע"י המרכז ואשר היוו את יעוד ההתרמה באותו ערב. בנוסף הוצג סרט קצר שהופק במיוחד לארוע ואמרו דברים מר גולדהר, יוה"ר הועדה הישראלית וכן יושבת ראש של הועדה לגיוס משאבים של הארגון הבין לאומי. התכנית אמנם הייתה ארוכה, אך המסרים שהועברו היו משמעותיים.

הדבר המרשים ביותר מבחינה מקצועית היה השילוב בין אינטראקציות חברתיות של המשתתפים וההתרמה האישית הבלתי פורמלית שהתרחשה במשך השעה וחצי לאחר משחק הטניס לדוגמא, שנעשה בשילוב אוכל ושתייה. המוזמנים הוזמנו אישית ע"י חברי הועדה הישראלית וקבלו הזמנות בדוא"ל ותזכורות סמס.

מטרת האירוע הייתה גם להגדיל את מספר חברי הועד הישראלי של מרכזי הטניס הישראלי, מכיוון שההתרמה הייתה להתחייבות כספית וכן הזמנה למעורבות.
