USAID deadline: March 25

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has issued an Annual Program Statement solicitation, for the support of programs contributing to conflict mitigation, peace and reconciliation in Israel, the West Bank and Gaza. This APS will support people-to-people reconciliation programs and activities which bring together individuals of different ethnic, religious or political backgrounds from areas of civil conflict and war in Israel and Gaza-West Bank. The proposed amount for assistance should range from $500,000 to $1.2 million. אנו עובדים כעת עם לקוח חדש בשם "המכון להנצחת יהדות גליציה ובוקובינה". זוהי עמותה שמטרתה לתעד ולשמר את המורשת התרבותית של הקהילות היהודיות שחיו באזור גליציה ובוקובינה (המשתרע על חלקים מאוקראינה, רומניה ופולין של היום). העמותה, בשיתוף עם מרכז נבזלין באוניברסיטה העברית, כבר שלחה לאוקראינה שתי משלחות למחקר שטח, וממצאי המשלחות מוצגות באתר העמותה

אנו מסייעים כעת למכון להנצחת יהדות גליציה ובוקובינה בהשגת מימון עבור שני הפרויקטים העיקריים: בניית מאגר נתונים של חומרים ראשוניים על יהודי גליציה ובוקובינה, שיכלול תיעוד של אתרים יהודיים (בתי עלמין, בתי כנסת וכו'), עדויות בעל פה ועוד, לצד שליחת משלחות נוספות למחקר שטח, אשר ממצאיו ייכללו במאגר הנתונים; וכן הענקת מלגות לסטודנטים אוקראיניים בשלב הדוקטורט והפוסט-דוקטורט המעוניינים לחקור נושאים הקשורים להיסטוריה היהודית של גליציה ובוקובינה. מלגות אלו יהיו בנות שלוש שנים, ויכללו שנה של לימודים בישראל

Our new client: Jewish Galicia and Bukovina

We are now working with a new client, Jewish Galicia and Bukovina, a non-profit association that seeks to document and preserve the cultural heritage of the Jewish communities of Galicia and Bukovina (a region covering areas located in modern-day Ukraine, Romania and Poland). The association, in cooperation with Hebrew University's Nevzlin Center, has already sent two fieldwork delegations to Ukraine, and their findings can be viewed on the association's web site, http://www.jewishgalicia.net

We are in the process of aiding Jewish Galicia and Bukovina to obtain funding for its two main projects: Building a database of primary material on the Jews of Galicia and Bukovina, which will include documentation of Jewish sites (cemeteries, synagogues, etc.), oral history testimonies and more, and sending additional fieldwork delegations to gather material that will then be included in the database; and sponsoring scholarships for Ukrainian doctoral and post-doctoral students who wish to research topics related to the Jewish history of Galicia and Bukovina. These three-year scholarships will include a year of study in Israel.
