דוד מאיר אפשטיין: דוד עובד בתחום גיוס המשאבים וכתיבת בקשות לקרנות מעל 30 שנה ועבד כיועץ חיצוני לעשרות מלכ"רים בישראל. בעשור האחרון דוד סייע בגיוס קרוב ל-20 מילון דולר. דוד גם לימד פיתוח משאבים לארגוני רווחה בבית הספר לעבודה סוציאלית ע"ש בארוולד באוניברסיטה העברית. תקראו עוד כאן.

תיאור הקורס: כל מפגש יחולק לחלק שעוסק בכתיבת בקשות למענקים וחלק שעוסק בגיוס משאבים. בחלק שיעסוק בכתיבת בקשות למענקים מקרנות נלמד איך לכתוב בקשה למענק, וכיצד מזהים ועובדים עם הקרנות השונות. משתתפי הקורס יכתבו בקשה למענק במהלך הקורס. בחלק שיעסוק בגיוס משאבים, נקבל את הכלים העיוניים והמעשיים הנחוצים להגדלת הידע האישי-מקצועי בגיוס משאבים, כולל התרמה אישית, אירועי התרמה, חסויות עיסקיות, אתרי אינטרנט והתרמה מקוונת.

לאחר הקורס: בעוד שאיננו מבטיחים תעסוקה לבוגרי הקורס, בוגרים רבים התחילו לעבוד בתחום לאחר סיום הקורס, וחלקם אף הצטרפו לצוות משרדנו. קיבלנו משובים חיוביים מאנשים שהשתתפו בקורס לריענון וחידוד הידע המקצועי שלהם, וגם אנשים המחפשים להיכנס לתחום.

The Tel-Aviv Grantwriting and fundraising course will be conducted in Hebrew in 5 sessions on Wednesday afternoons from 4:30-8:00 pm. begining June 27th.

The course will be led by David Maeir-Epstein, MSSA.

The cost of the course is 1,700 NIS plus VAT 

David Maeir-Epstein: David has worked in the field of fundraising and grantwriting for over thirty years and has served as an independent organizational consultant for tens of nonprofit organizations in Israel. In the last decade, David has assisted clients in raising nearly $20 million. David has also taught Resource Development for Welfare Organizations at Hebrew University's Baerwald School of Social Work. Learn more here.

 

Topics covered: Each meeting will be divided into a grantwriting and fundraising section. The grantwriting aspect of the course will focus on teaching how to write grant proposals, identifying and working with foundations.  Participants will produce a grant proposal as a result of the course. The fundraising part of the course will teach the theoretical and practical tools necessary to enhance your knowledge of the field via lectures, discussion and experiential simulation workshops on personal solicitation, planning fundraising events, corporate sponsorships, internet web site and email fundraising. Upon finishing the course, graduates receive diplomas certifying their participation in the course.

After the course: Graduates are provided with information about openings in the field of fundraising and grantwriting in Israel. Many graduates have subsequently entered the field or advanced their position. Graduates have uniformly indicated that they gained much practical and helpful experiential information and a fair number have gained employment or enhanced their career in part due to the course.

Dates: The course will begin on Wednesdays, starting the 27th of June, and will continue once every other week (the tentative dates for the remaining sessions are the 11th and 25th of July and the 8th and 22nd of August). The course will take place between the hours 16:30-20:00. Due to the number of participants, all final dates will be decided during the first session so as to make sure that everybody can participate in all sessions.

 

Location: The course will take place in the offices of the Association of Israelis of Central European Origin on 15 Rambam St. Tel-Aviv. In order to get there by bus, from the Central Bus Station in Tel Aviv, take bus 4/104/204. Descend at the corner of Balfour or the Carmel Market, Cross Allenby Street and turn into Rambam Street near 80 Allenby Street. By car you can park in any car park in the area-King George/Allenby/Maccabi. Look for the shuk on GPS or Allenby 80 although Allenby is closed to private cars and therefore it is better to come by public transport.

 Language: The course in Tel-Aviv will be taking place in Hebrew and a translation of key words will be provided. In addition, a proposal can be written either in English or Hebrew, based on the participants abilities.

Costs: The cost for the course in Tel Aviv is 1,700NIS plus VAT (1,972 including VAT).

Job Description

·         Writing and sending grant proposals in English and Hebrew

·         Tracking proposals and sending follow-up reports

·         Cultivating relationships with current and potential supporting foundations

·         Organizing and running fundraising events and running a variety of events for volunteers from abroad

·         Preparing PR material in English for brochures, newsletters, the website, Facebook, etc. including translations from Hebrew

·         Giving site tours for donors, journalists and groups of volunteers in the soup kitchen

·         Maintaining ongoing contact with the office abroad

Requirements:

1.    Experience in fundraising, grant-writing and donor relations

2.    Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work on a  team

            לאחרונה, ד"ר סטיב דונשיק פרסם מאמר איוכתי ב- ejewishphilanthropy אשר מעמיד את כללי האתיקה במקצוע גיוס משאבים על הגבול בין תחום האתיקה לתחום החוק. קבלת תשלום עבור גיוס תרומות תמורת אחוזים מהמענק אינה בגדר הפרת החוק אך ההשלכות האתיות מביאות לתוצאות בלתי רצויות. כשמגייסי כספים פועלים להשגת המענק המירבי בכל מחיר, הם מפספסים את המטרה הרצוייה, דהיינו, קשר ארוך-טווח בין הארגון לבין הקרן.

It is Nili Averbach, Director of Resource Development for Keren Aynor who deserves the congratulations for receiving informal notification that their request for a $100,000 grant renewal from the New York UJA-Federation was approved. Fundraising Ethics

Dr.  Steve Donshik recently published a good article in ejewishphilanthropy about how fundraising ethics is a topic of discussion that boarders the line between ethical and legal. Accepting a percentage of monies granted is not illegal but the ethical implications have consequences. When a fundraiser is set on obtaining the largest grant at all costs because it feeds their paycheck, they lose sight of what truly matters, a lasting relationship between the organization and the foundation.

Interacting With Donors

Often times, interacting with donors and potential donors can be an uncertain path. Organizations must be well prepared and able to communicate to the donor the essential information about the organization, mission, goals, and plan of action in a way that projects to the donor why they should care. An article by Evans and Lapin in ejewishphilanthropy.com highlighted two basic assumptions about why people give:

·         They care about the person making the “ask.” Despite advances in technology and the way people give to agencies (text to give, online fundraising websites, etc.) the dictum “people give to people” is still as true as ever.

·         They care about the impact of their gift. The vision of the organization and the resulting impact of the contribution are critical to encouraging a donor to make a gift. The difference that the gift will make in the lives of people, the life of the community and in the life of the donor remains essential parts of the “selling proposition.”

Congratulations to our client, Keren Aynor and their resource development director Miriam who received unofficial but reliable notification that their request for a $100,000 grant renewal from the New York UJA-Federation, was approved! The grant is for scholarships to Israelis, of Ethiopian origin, seeking higher education, particularly at the Masters and PhD levels. The grant will be official after approval by the federation board, in July.
